DOR Launches Online Guide to Certain Individual Notices
Date: September 15, 2011
To better help taxpayers understand why they receive specific notices, the NC Department of Revenue has launched an online guide that explains why a taxpayer was assessed and their options for responding to the notice.
Notices are sent when the department determines someone owes taxes to the State that have not been paid for a number of reasons, such as information on their State and Federal returns does not match or they did not file a return. Notices are technical and often can be difficult to understand.
The online guide will walk taxpayers through identifying the exact reason for the notice, how they should respond and payment options available to them. Visual images, common-language explanations, direct instructions and contact information will assist taxpayers in easily correcting their tax situations.
