Henderson Tax Return Preparer Charged with State Tax Offenses

RALEIGH – A Henderson tax return preparer was arrested Wednesday on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Sharon D. Rhodes, 46, of 350 Mum Lane, Henderson was charged on November 9, 2011, with 35 counts of aiding or assisting in the preparation of fraudulent North Carolina Individual Income Tax Returns.
Arrest warrants allege that Rhodes, owner and operator of R S Freedom Tax Service of Durham and Changing Faces Annointed Tax Service of Henderson, aided or assisted in the preparation and filing of 35 fraudulent North Carolina individual income tax returns of her clients during tax years 2007 through 2010 that she knew to be false and fraudulent.
Rhodes appeared before a Wake County magistrate and was released after posting a $10,000 bond. A first appearance was scheduled for November 10, 2011, in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against Rhodes resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section.
