Some Coupon Booklets Delayed by Sandy

Some taxpayers may experience delays in receiving paper coupon booklets used to file sales and use tax returns (E-500) and other smaller tax types with the NC Department of Revenue, due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy. The printer that creates and distributes the documents is located in an area of eastern Pennsylvania hit by the storm and was unable to ship the booklets as early as usual.
The booklets cover the months of October 2012-September 2013.
The NC Department of Revenue has learned the printer was able to mail around 56,000 monthly E-500 booklets last week and plans to ship booklets for utility and liquor sales tax returns by Nov. 7. Quarterly sales and use tax coupon booklets will be mailed near the end of this month.
The coupon booklets are sent to taxpayers via third class mail.
Taxpayers who use the department’s online filing and payment system do not receive printed booklets and are not affected by this delay.
