Local sales tax to increase by 0.25 percent in Edgecombe and Greene counties

The local sales and use tax rate in Edgecombe and Greene counties will increase from 2 percent to 2.25 percent effective April 1, 2013. North Carolina counties have the authority to levy an additional 0.25 percent local sales and use tax when voted upon by the residents of the county.
The additional 0.25 percent applies to sales of tangible personal property, certain digital property and other transactions subject to general State rate of sales and use tax.
The total State and local rate for the two counties will be 7 percent as of April 1.Businesses registered for sales and use taxes will be notified of the change through a written notice from the Department of Revenue.
