Duplin County Couple Charged with State Tax Offenses
Date: February 21, 2013
RALEIGH – A Warsaw couple was arrested Tuesday on felony tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Andrew Riddick, 51, and Sharon Sutton Riddick, 55, of 516 N. Center Street, Warsaw were charged on Feb. 19, 2013 with 12 counts of Attempt to Evade or Defeat Tax.
Arrest warrants allege that the Riddicks knowingly and willfully maintained with their employer, the North Carolina Department of Corrections, fraudulent Forms NC-4 or W-4 during tax years 1999 – 2010, claiming to be exempt from North Carolina Individual Income tax withholding. These actions caused the North Carolina Department of Corrections to not withhold state individual income tax from their wages when in fact they were not exempt from state individual income tax withholding, all in an attempt to evade and defeat the North Carolina Individual Income Tax.
The Riddicks appeared before a Wake County magistrate and each was placed under a $30,000 bond. Their first appearances are scheduled for Feb. 20, 2013 in Wake County District Court in Raleigh.
The charges against the Riddicks resulted from an investigation by a Special Agent with the Department's Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
