NCDOR Self-Help Tool Available for Filing Individual Income Returns
Step by Step Instructions
Date: January 17, 2013
The North Carolina Department of Revenue is making it easier for people to complete their Individual Income Tax Return (Form D-400) this year with an on-line tutorial that walks a taxpayer through the process step-by-step. The tutorial was first launched last year and received great feedback.
The self-paced program allows North Carolina taxpayers to understand who is required to file an Individual Income Tax Return, how to obtain the necessary forms and identify what information they need to have gathered in order to complete their returns.
The program will help taxpayers navigate changes on their tax return (Form D-400) this year, which will now use Adjusted Gross Income instead of Federal Taxable Income.
The tutorial, which is meant to provide general guidance only, also covers information on certain popular tax credits and deductions.
"This is an excellent tool for our taxpayers and supports our goal of high-level customer service," said Lyons Gray, Secretary of Revenue. "Completing tax forms and returns can often be time-consuming and confusing. We believe this will make understanding general tax responsibilities easier for our citizens."
The tutorial can be found at the department's website, under the Taxpayer Self-Help Online Learning Modules quick link.
