Department of Revenue to Open Taxpayer Assistance and Collection Center in Edgecombe County
Date: 4/7/2003
RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Department of Revenue will open a new Taxpayer Assistance and
Collection Center in Edgecombe County this October that will create 108 jobs and help the
agency respond to taxpayer calls faster and more efficiently, Secretary Norris Tolson announced
today.
"We are committed to providing the best possible service to the taxpayers of our state,"
Tolson said. "This new facility will be the hub of our tax collection efforts. It will
help us improve collections, provide better customer service and ultimately lower our operational
costs.
“It will also provide an economic boost to Edgecombe County and the surrounding area
by creating new jobs and pumping as much as $2 million into the region’s economy,”
Tolson said. Hiring for the new positions will begin early this summer.
To be located in the Fountain Industrial Park in Rocky Mount, the Center will allow the department
to use state of the art voice communication technology to better serve North Carolina's taxpayers.
It will serve as the primary link between taxpayers and the department, and is projected to
allow twice as many phone calls to be processed.
When the Center is fully operational in 2005, it is projected to save the department roughly
$1 million to $2 million per year in operating and personnel costs.
