Forsyth County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Winston-Salem business owner pleaded guilty Thursday
to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Manuel Benitez of 5825 Reynolda Road, Winston Salem, pleaded guilty
on Feb.19, 2004 to 12 counts of failure to file and pay the state
sales and use tax. Benitez is the owner of Benitez Automotive, located
at 1235 North Liberty St. in Winston-Salem.
Judge Lori Hutchens issued Benitez a 45-day sentence, which was suspended
for one year. He was also ordered to pay court costs and to comply
with state tax laws in the future.
The charges against Benitez are the result of efforts by the Department
of Revenue Winston Salem Office.
