Scotland County Business Owner Sentenced for State Tax Charges

LAURINBURG – A Laurinburg business owner pleaded guilty in
Scotland County District Court recently to charges filed by the North
Carolina Department of Revenue.
Myrtle Bostic, owner of the Country Side Diner, 11501 McColl Road,
Laurinburg, pleaded guilty on March 29, 2004 to 26 counts of failure
to pay the state sales and use tax and four counts of failure to file
and pay sales tax.
Judge Bill McIlwain consolidated the 30 counts and issued Bostic
two, 45-day consecutive sentences. The sentences were suspended and
Bostic was placed on supervised probation for five years. Bostic was
ordered to pay $6,115 to the Department of Revenue and $200 in court
costs.
The charges against Bostic are the result of efforts by the Department
of Revenue Fayetteville Collection Office.
