Forsyth County Business Owner Sentenced for State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Forsyth County business owner pleaded no contest
recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Shari W. Miles of 515 N. Liberty St., Winston Salem, pleaded no contest
on Feb. 19, 2004 to two counts of failure to failure and pay the state
sales and use tax. Miles is the owner Shari's Fashions.
Judge Lori Hutchens sentenced Miles to two, 45-day sentences. The
sentences were suspended for 18 months on the condition that Miles
pay $7,825 in restitution to the Department of Revenue by May 28,
2004. She must also file and pay all future sales and use taxes on
time.
The charges against Miles are the result of efforts by the Department
of Revenue Winston-Salem Office.
