Lincoln County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Lincoln County business owner pleaded guilty Tuesday
to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Carole H. Varner, 64, of 3360 Maiden Hwy, Lincolnton, pleaded guilty
on Feb. 3, 2004 to one count of failure to file and pay the state
sales tax. Varner was president of Cecelia's Attic Walls, Windows
and Floors, an interior design company that closed in September of
2003.
Judge Anna Foster placed Varner on supervised probation for 24 months.
Varner must also pay restitution to the state Department of Revenue
and probation fees.
The charges against Varner are the result of efforts by the Department
of Revenue Gastonia Office.
