Watauga County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges
A Watauga County business owner pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Edward Stamey of 836 Kimberly Lane, Boone, pleaded guilty on Jan. 25, 2005 to two counts of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax. Stamey is the owner of Stamey’s Cycle Center in Boone.
Judge Kyle R. Austin issued Stamey a 45-day suspended sentence. Stamey was placed on unsupervised probation and was ordered to pay $2,497.26 in restitution by March 15, 2005 and pay court costs.
The charges against Stamey are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
