Wake County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges
RALEIGH – A Wake County business owner pleaded guilty Thursday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Joseph F. Leli pleaded guilty on April 19, 2007 to one count each of failure to file and pay the state withholding tax and the state sales and use tax. Leli is president of JS Babymoon, Inc., which operates the Babymoon Café, located at 100 Jerusalem Dr., Morrisville.
Leli received a 45-day suspended sentence and was placed on 36 months of supervised probation for each count. Leli will be placed on unsupervised probation when the taxes are paid in full. He must pay $1,000 per month for 36 months and pay a $400 fine. He must also file all outstanding returns for 2005 through 2007 within 30 days.
The charges against Leli are the result of efforts by the Department's Raleigh Collections Office.
