Wake County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Wake County business owner pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Debra Lightner of Raleigh pleaded guilty on June 6, 2007 to one count of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax. Lightner is vice-president of Lightner Funeral and Cremation Services.
Judge Jennifer Knox issued Lightner a 45 day suspended sentence and placed her on unsupervised probation for one year. Lightner was also ordered to pay a $100 fine.
The charges against Lightner are the result of efforts by the Department’s Raleigh Collections Office.
