Surry County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges, Receives Active Sentence

A Surry County man pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina
Department of Revenue.
Michael S. Stockton of 117 Hickory St., Elkin pleaded guilty on May 4, 2007 to three
counts of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax. Stockton is the operator
of Morrison’s Flower Shop in Elkin.
Judge James A. Harrell issued Stockton three consecutive 45-day sentences and
ordered that he serve them in the Surry County Jail. He was immediately taken into
custody.
The charges against Stockton are the result of efforts by the Department’s
Winston-Salem Collections Office.
