Catawba County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges

A Catawba County business owner pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Sherry Sigmon Lutz pleaded guilty in Catawba County District Court on Feb. 27, 2008 to one count of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax and one count of failure to file and pay the corporate income and franchise tax. Lutz was president of the now closed Foothills Maintenance & Janitorial Supply in Conover.
Judge Robert E. Hodges issued Lutz two consecutive 45-day suspended sentences and placed her on probation for three years. She must pay $21,367.25 in restitution and file and pay delinquent corporate income and franchise taxes by April 15, 2008.
The charges against Lutz are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
