Dare County Couple Guilty of State Tax Charges

A Dare County couple pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Franklin D. and Vera M. O'Neal of Avon pleaded guilty on May 23, 2008 in District Court to one count of failure to pay the state individual income tax.
Judge Edgar Barnes issued the O'Neals a 12 month suspended sentence and placed them on unsupervised probation. The couple must also pay $280 per month for 23 months starting June 1, 2008 until their balance is fully paid to the Department.
The charges against the O'Neals are the result of efforts by the Department’s Elizabeth City Collections Office.
