Buncombe County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges

A Buncombe County businessman pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
James Leonard of 1673 Jenkins Valley Road, Alexander pleaded guilty on Jan. 13, 2009 to five counts of failure to pay the state sales and use tax. Leonard is president of Executive Audio Visual, Inc.
Judge Shirley Brown issued Leonard a 45-day suspended sentence and placed him on 12 months supervised probation. Leonard must also pay $1,771.17 in restitution and court costs.The charges against Leonard are the result of efforts by the Department’s Asheville Collections Office.
