Catawba County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges

A Catawba County businessman pleaded guilty Thursday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Billy Wayne Townsend of 3696 Rhoney Farm Road, Vale pleaded guilty in District Court on Jan. 8, 2009 to one count of failure to file and pay the state sales and withholding taxes. Townsend is president of Longview Tire and Auto, Inc.
Judge Buford Cherry placed Townsend on supervised probation for 36-months and ordered him to pay restitution.The charges against Townsend are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
