Lincoln County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Lincoln County businessman pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges filed by the
North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Mark A. Woody, 31, of 131 Woodyville Road, Dallas pleaded guilty on Aug. 5, 2003 to two counts
of failure to file and pay the state sales tax.
Woody is the owner of Under Water World of 1559 N. Aspen St., Lincolnton, a pet store that
has been in operation since 1992.
Judge Dean Black issued Woody two, 45-day suspended sentences and placed him on probation
for two years. Woody was placed on supervised probation for the first 12 months, however he
will be placed on unsupervised probation for the subsequent 12 months if his filing and payment
of sales taxes remains current. He was also ordered to pay a $200 fine and court costs.
The charges against Woody are the result of efforts by the Department of Revenue Gastonia
Office.
