Burke County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges; Receives Active Sentence

A Burke County woman pleaded guilty recently to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue and was sentenced to 24 hours of active jail time.
Beverly Grindstaff of 254 Garrison Road, Morganton pleaded guilty on Aug. 28, 2007 to failure to pay the state income tax. Judge John Mull issued Grindstaff 24 hours of active jail time and a 45-day suspended sentence. She was placed on 36 months of supervised probation and was ordered to pay $22,691.18 in restitution and file all future returns and pay taxes on time.
The charges against Grindstaff are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
