Cleveland County Man Pleads Guilty to State Tax Charges

A Cleveland County resident pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Claude W. Oakes of 1110 Fallston Road, Shelby pleaded guilty on Dec. 12, 2007 to failure to pay the state individual income tax. District Court Judge Larry Wilson issued Oakes a 45-day suspended sentence and placed him on supervised probation for 24 months. He must also pay $3,205 in restitution and court costs.
The charges against Oakes are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
