Alexander County Businessman Guilty of State Tax Charges

An Alexander County business owner pleaded guilty Monday to charges filed by the North
Carolina Department of Revenue.
Blake E. Shook of 708 Icard Ridge Road, Taylorsville pleaded guilty on Aug. 13, 2007 to
eight counts of failure to file the state sales and use tax. Shook was a managing partner
of Jet Chek, LLC, which operates a convenience store in Hickory.
Judge Carlton Terry issued Shook a 45 day suspended sentence and place him on supervised
probation for five years and ordered him to pay $48,481.33 in restitution.
The charges against Shook are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory
Collections Office.
