Catawba County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges
Date: August 1, 2007
A Catawba County business owner pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Charles Hunter Spaller of Hickory pleaded guilty to failure to file the state individual income tax and failure to pay the state withholding and sales and use taxes. Spaller is president of Spago, Inc. which operated the Ragazzi’s restaurant in Hickory. The restaurant is no longer open.
Judge Gregory R. Hayes issued Spaller two consecutive 45-day suspended sentences and placed him on supervised probation for five years. He was also ordered to pay $36,716 in restitution, pay court costs and be compliant on all future taxes.
The charges against Spaller are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
