Wake County Couple Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH – A Wake County couple pleaded guilty Thursday to separate charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Gail D. and Leon C. Walton of 4704 Grand Cypress Court, Raleigh pleaded guilty on Aug. 9, 2007 in Wake County Superior Court. Leon Walton pleaded guilty to one count of failure to file and one count of failure to pay the state sales tax. Gail Walton pleaded guilty to one count of failure to file and one count of failure to pay the state individual income tax.
Leon Walton was placed on supervised probation for 60 months and ordered to pay $39,123.41 in restitution, pay court costs and file delinquent sales taxes within 30 days.
Gail Walton was also placed on supervised probation and was ordered to pay $19,421.25 in restitution and pay court costs. Both were ordered to file and pay all future taxes on time.
The charges against the Waltons are the result of efforts by the Department’s Raleigh Collections Office.
