Wilkes County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges

A Wilkes County man pleaded guilty in District Court Thursday to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Donald L. Baynes of 143 Glen Oaks Rd., Millers Creek pleaded guilty on July 31, 2008 to failure to file and pay the state individual income tax. Judge Jeanie Reavis Houston issued Baynes a 45-day suspended sentence and placed him on five years probation. Baynes must also pay $42,156.33 in restitution and court costs.
The charges against Baynes are the result of efforts by the Department’s Hickory Collections Office.
