Wake County Resident Guilty of State Tax Charges

RALEIGH -- A Wake County businessman pleaded guilty Tuesday in District Court to charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.
Mark Valentine of 11112 Deerskin Place, Wendell pleaded guilty to one count of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax. The offenses took place between November 2007 and January 2008. Valentine was president of Yancey’s! Inc, which formerly operated Yancey’s restaurant in downtown Raleigh. The restaurant is now closed.
Valentine received a 45-day suspended sentence and was placed on supervised probation for 36 months. He must also pay $31,213.66 in restitution and court costs.
The charges against Valentine are the result of efforts by the Department’s Raleigh Collections Office.
