Surry County Business Owner Guilty of State Tax Charges

Raleigh - A Surry county man was found guilty July 14 in Surry County District Court of failure to file and pay the state sales and use tax.
Kerry Cummings of 1856 Ararat Road, Ararat, the owner of Cummings Amish Store, was sentenced to 45 days. The jail time was suspended to 18 months supervised probation. Cummings was ordered to pay $2,000 by July 17, 2009 and the balance of $1,058.88 in 90 days. He was also ordered to file and pay all tax returns due to the state.
The charges against Cummings are the result of efforts by the N.C. Department of Revenue collections office in Winston-Salem.
